چکیده

PURPOSE To evaluate the factors affecting the area under the log contrast sensitivity function (AULCSF) in healthy myopic eyes. METHODS We retrospectively examined 201 eyes of 201 consecutive subjects (age, 31.8 ± 7.4 years (mean ± standard deviation)) with myopic refractive errors of -1.25 to -8.25 diopters (D). From the contrast sensitivity data, the area under the log contrast sensitivity function (AULCSF) was calculated. Stepwise multiple regression analysis was used to assess the factors affecting the AULCSF. RESULTS The mean AULSCF was 1.09 ± 0.09 (0.89 to 1.55). Explanatory variables relevant to the AULCSF were, in order of influence, the objective scattering index (OSI) (p = 0.018, partial regression coefficient B =  -0.032) and logMAR CDVA (p = 0.022, B =  -0.209) (adjusted R(2) = 0.231). No significant correlation was seen with other clinical factors such as gender, manifest refraction, pupil size, lens density, corneal HOAs, or ocular HOAs. CONCLUSIONS Although the great majority of the variance remains unexplained, eyes with lower OSI and better CDVA are more predisposed to show higher contrast sensitivity function. These results indicate that not only CDVA but also intraocular forward scattering may play some role in predicting the contrast sensitivity function in myopic subjects.

The Evaluation of Yellow vs. Blue Color Contrast Sensitivity pre and Post LASIK

Introduction: contrast sensitivity is one of the most important psychophysical tests that may be used for the evaluation of refractive state of eye and retinal image quality. Yellow vs. blue color contrast sensitivity may be more suitable in this regard. Materials and Methods: thirty myopic eyes were considered in this study. Yellow vs. blue color contrast sensitivity was evaluated under the sa...

[Static and dynamic contrast sensitivity of myopic eyes before and after laser in situ keratomileusis].

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the static and dynamic contrast sensitivity changes in myopic patients before and after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK). METHODS Seventy-three eyes in 37 patients with myopia (with or without astigmatism) who received LASIK were tested for static and dynamic contrast sensitivities using the METRO VISION MON ELEC I system at 0.7, 1.4, 2.7, 5.5, 11, and 22 cpd and cps...

Effect of Previous Myopic Laser In Situ Keratomileusis on Contrast Sensitivity After Diffractive Multifocal Intraocular Lens Implantations

Objective: To evaluate effects of previous myopic laser in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK) on decrease in contrast sensitivity after implantation of diffractive multifocal intraocular lens (MF-IOL). Methods: Retrospective case series included eyes that were implanted diffractive MF-IOLs after myopic LASIK. Contrast sensitivity was measured 1 month postoperatively and the area under log contrast sen...

Assessment of aberrations and visual quality differences between myopic and astigmatic eyes before and after contact lens application

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the aberration and visual quality differences between myopic and astigmatic eyes before and after contact lens application by using corneal aberrometer and low- contrast sensitivity chart. METHODS Eighty eyes of 40 patients were included in this study. Patients were divided into two groups as myopic (40 eyes, n=20) and astigmatic groups (40 eyes, n=20). We used aspheric ...

Contrast sensitivity function and ocular higher-order aberrations following overnight orthokeratology.

PURPOSE To evaluate relationships among contrast sensitivity function, ocular higher-order aberration, and myopic correction in eyes undergoing overnight orthokeratology for myopia. METHODS A prospective study was conducted in 46 eyes of 23 patients undergoing orthokeratology. Inclusion criteria were spherical equivalent refraction between -1.00 and -4.00 diopters (D), refractive astigmatism ...
